TowBoatU.S. Launch helps bring in the New Year in the Bahamas

In late December, a panicked call came into TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale's office. On the other line was the owner of the Bimini Sands Resort requesting immediate assistance to deliver their New Year's celebration fireworks. Time was of the essence! The fireworks needed to be delivered as soon as possible to properly prepare for their spectacular pyrotechnics show that resort guests and local Biminites have come to enjoy. Barney Hauf, Director of Sales, quickly responded, "How does tomorrow afternoon work for you?" Pleased by Mr. Hauf's response, they scheduled delivery of the fireworks to TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale's dock located in Dania Beach, Florida.

Barney explained, "We decided to use our 46' launch boat that has a large deck and multiple tie down points; it was the perfect vessel to deliver the three large crates that the fireworks were packed in." TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale's crew unloaded the crates from the delivery truck at their secure site located in Dania Beach Florida with an all terrain fork lift. Next, the crates were loaded carefully onto the launch vessel's deck with the use of a crane. After the crates were secured, they were wrapped with a tarp to prevent any potential water damage. Not only was it important to get underway quickly, it was imperative that the fireworks arrived dry so the crew took great care to protect the cargo from the elements.

The delivery of the fireworks was a success! The crew met with Bimini Sands Resort representatives at the Government Docks to offload the precious cargo. Barney recalled, "I feel like we played a small role in helping a Bimini tradition to live on. Whether it is a last minute delivery of fireworks to a remote island or a critical delivery of spare parts and technicians to a ship, these are the things that keep my job interesting....and rewarding."
