Fort Lauderdale, FL 10/22/19 - TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale is celebrating their 30th Anniversary this year. The company was founded in 1989 by Larry Acheson. Acheson cut his teeth in the towing and salvage industry in Tampa Bay and fell in love with the business immediately. Acheson recalls, "From the very beginning I loved the challenge of towing boats in tight quarters and learning how to perform salvages. I have never minded the long hours or unpredictability of the business because the work fascinated me so much. As the years progressed and my experience continued to mature, the challenges grew in scope and difficulty. These bigger challenges fueled my passion for this industry every step of the way."

The company has grown substantially from the early days when Acheson was armed with his trusty 26' Privateer towboat that was trailered to his apartment in Oakland Park Florida at the end of each day. He had a few lift bags, a couple pumps and an incredible will to succeed! Throughout the years the company has steadily added people and assets to meet the ever increasing demand for their services. Today the company has 13 boats and nearly 40 full time employees responding from multiple ports in South Florida. Acheson added, "My passion for Towing and Salvage is just as solid today as it was 30 years ago. Interestingly I have also become fascinated with what makes businesses of all kinds successful. I have read many books on the topic and love to spend time with successful entrepreneurs hoping to pirate some of their wisdom." Acheson laughs, "See what I did there?" Using the business acumen that Larry has developed over the past 10 years, TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale has been disciplined in setting goals and measuring success. The company leaders defined a set of core values that are evident to each and every employee as they are displayed in high traffic locations throughout the company. Although there are 5 core values, the one that is repeated amongst staff and management the most is to, "Do the right thing." The company attributes much of their success to those four words.
