Fleet Week Returns to Port Everglades in Grand Fashion

The 22nd anniversary of a Fort Lauderdale tradition sailed into Port Everglades on Wednesday morning, April 25th 2012. Passing boaters and spectators perched along the banks of the port watched in awe as an amphibious assault ship, a guided missile cruiser, a Coast Guard Cutter and a nuclear powered attack submarine entered the port accompanied by approximately 2,500 sailors, Marines and United States Coast Guard personnel. Fleet Week had officially begun! Local photographer Bobby Raskin captured dozens of images of the spectacle that morning, Click Here to get a glimpse of these ships as they make their way toward their berths. Tours of some of the ships were available during the week and the sailors enjoyed the sites and activities that Ft. Lauderdale has to offer during their free time.

Later that week local residents and sailors alike enjoyed the Lauderdale Air Show as it returned for the first time in five years. Although the event was canceled due to weather on Sunday, Saturday's events included performances by the Navy Seals Leap Frogs, an F-15 formation flight, a B-1 Bomber, and a Coast Guard Search and Rescue demonstration to name a few. Make plans to attend the 2013 event today and learn more about the show at the official website at www.lauderdaleairshow.com.

Ft. Lauderdale's residents and tourists got an up close and personal view of a very small sampling of the incredible might of the United States armed forces during this year's fleet week....God Bless America!
