TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale Partners with the Coast Guard For a Great Cause!
TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale partnered with U.S. Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale in a six hour Spin-a-thon presented by Marine Industries Cares Foundation on Friday, April 20th at Esplanade Park in Fort Lauderdale. Over $150,000.00 was raised for two local charities; Kids in Distress and The Children's Diagnostic and Treatment Center. TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale's spinning team captain Michelle Hoekstra exclaimed, "I was overwhelmed by the amount of support that the men and women of Broward County's marine industry provided toward the well-being of the children in our community. Our partnership with Station Fort Lauderdale was a natural fit, we work closely with them to help save lives out on the water, so working together to help save lives in another way just felt right! For these reasons, we aptly named our team Spinning to the Rescue."
Captains from TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale along with personnel from Station Fort Lauderdale took turns spinning on a handcrafted TowBoatU.S. exercise bike at the direction of incredibly energetic spin trainers. "Our spinners fought through their fatigue by sipping on cold bottled water provided by sponsors throughout the day along with the support of our fellow team members and friends. The energy by all of the participating teams was charismatic!" Michelle excitedly stated. Larry Acheson, owner of TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale explained, "I was proud to see my crew strengthening their relationships with the local Coast Guard and each other in a fun environment for an extremely worthwhile cause. We look forward to participating in next year's event."
